Pray for HB4221 (The Pregnancy Center Disclosure Act)

As Illinois vies to be an ‘abortion haven,’ we can expect more laws to come into play that could negatively impact the pro-life sector. One such of these bills in question is the Pregnancy Center Disclosure Act, or HB4221.

Caring Network is a pro-life organization with six (and counting) pregnancy resource centers across the Chicagoland area. We strive to be up to date with the latest legislature and political atmosphere regarding abortion and our pro-life standings so we can empower women to choose life for their unborn babies.

What is HB4221?

HB4221 is a piece of legislation first introduced in November of 2021 and is currently in the Rules Committee. The bill outlines stipulations on pregnancy centers regarding disclaimers on-site, online, and in all advertising. Regardless of what the pregnancy center offers, whether it is under the supervision of a licensed medical professional or not, the disclaimer must be presented on-site, online, and in all advertising. Further, in any county in which the pregnancy center resides, if at least 10% of the population primarily speaks another language, the disclaimer must also be displayed in that target language.

The disclaimer is as follows: “This facility is not licensed as a medical facility by Illinois and has no licensed medical provider who provides or directly supervises the provision of services.”

The bill requires this disclaimer to be in large font, in contrasting colors, and set apart by symbols or other markings. While this won’t affect the services the pregnancy centers offer, it seems the primary goal of this bill is to discredit the important work of pregnancy centers to keep potential clients away.

What Can We Do?

As Christians, our first response to trying times is always to bring our requests to God. We can pray that this bill will not be passed, that those in power will have softened hearts, and that this does not affect the way we can serve women and their families so we can keep empowering them to choose life. We can pray that if this bill does happen to pass, the disclaimer will not keep women from seeking our services and support.

We hope and pray to always be a people who are not taken by surprise, but live with eyes wide open, ready to take what comes.
