March for Life 2020: “Life Empowers: Pro-Life is Pro-Woman”
On January 24th of 2020, hundreds of thousands will gather on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the annual March for Life celebrating the value of all human life. This year’s unique theme: Life Empowers: Pro-Life is Pro-Woman is designed to “offer clarity and hope” and to challenge the current culture and messaging offered by the mainstream media and pro-abortion advocates who tell us that opposing abortion (and therefore, opposing the ending of innocent human life) also means you are anti-woman. Is that truly the case? Is being pro-life in opposition to being pro-woman?
Caring Network is a pro-life organization in the Chicagoland area. Since 1981, we have been supporting women who are facing unexpected pregnancies with unconditional love and impactful services. Pro-Life/Pro-Woman Messaging
Being pro-life and pro-woman are often described as mutually exclusive by the pro-abortion movement. The truth, in fact, is the opposite! Being pro-life actually promotes the empowerment of women. See Caring Network’s recent blog post celebrating a woman’s right to choose life.
As our society grapples with what it means to be pro-woman, the 2020 March for Life theme celebrates the precious link between a woman and her child. Promoting a woman’s unique ability to carry life can provide a healing remedy for wounding and deceptive messages about women coming from the pro-abortion industry and beyond.
“Pro-Woman” in History
Both at the March for Life and throughout 2020, we celebrate the 100 th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment, creating a women’s right to vote. How appropriate then, throughout this year, we especially remember and honor the true suffragists, the original courageous women who recognized both the inherent dignity of women and the unborn. These great leaders knew that this unified couple, mother and baby, were not at odds with each other! In particular, Alice Paul, one of suffragette leaders and author of the original Equal Rights Amendment, referred to abortion as “the ultimate in the exploitation of women.”
To fight for life and to fight to women’s rights were not always at odds with each other in our society. Let’s make a difference in bringing these sides together once again.
