Caring Network is a DuPage County nonprofit that has been serving women facing unplanned pregnancy for almost 40 years. By providing emotional support, spiritual counsel, and practical help we come alongside others in a time of crisis. Our annual banquet event is our top fundraiser – helping to not only sustain the ministry, but to reach more women in need. Reinventing a Time-Honored Event
Caring Network’s Annual Banquet is a time-honored tradition. Held in Drury Lane in Oak Brook for decades, it’s the largest fundraiser of the year for the non-profit and includes dinner and a renowned guest speaker. With over a thousand individuals in attendance, many look forward to the event well in advance. When the outcome of such an important event is at stake, how do you adapt to the current environment?
Many non-profits have adapted by hosting virtual events since March. This can come with a steep learning curve and a lot of last-minute shuffling. (Which was experienced with our Virtual Auction event in May!) Thankfully, with the Annual Banquet being in October, there was time to make a game plan in advance. However, the ever-changing situation with the rates of infection and the government response to mitigate the spread of the virus means that all plans must be held loosely. With this in mind, how do you adapt such an important event?
Hosting a Hybrid Event – Virtual and In-Person
At Caring Network, the decision was made to host a “hybrid” event with both in-person and virtual options. Following the CDC guidelines and current government regulations, the reinvented banquet will be hosted at several area churches with limited attendance. Each location will incorporate social-distancing and require masks to be worn. A livestream of the event will be shown at each church, allowing participants to experience it together, in real time. Additionally, the livestream can be accessed at home either individually or while hosting a small gathering. This allows those who are comfortable to share the event with others. And for those who wish to join in from the comfort of their home, they are still afforded the opportunity to participate.
Caring Network, like so many other organizations, has spent a lot of time in prayer and counsel figuring out the best way forward in these uncertain times. Thanks to the support of the Board of Directors, Interim President, and leadership in the organization, this important event will still be offered to the community this year.
